Lilly: the main character. She looks somewhat like Lee Miller. She's very self-conscious about a strawberry-colored birthmark on her face. She doesn't have much interest in school, but she loves to draw.
Lee Miller, solarized portrait
Ahaziel: a stranger who seems to have a tendency to lurk.
Brandt: Lilly's brother. He seems shallow, but he's loyal to his sister and friends.
Austin: Brandt's best friend, a popular guy who seems to have taken a liking to Lilly.
Chris: Lilly's best friend, who has sort of abandoned her to date Brandt. She's sweet and energetic. Originally I based her looks off Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII, but the video game character looks almost exactly like Camilla Belle.

Rinoa Heartilly
Joy: Chris's friend, who doesn't like Lilly. She's very ambitious about school work and often casts a negative air over a conversation.
Merko: another mysterious figure who pops up suddenly in Lilly's life.
Setting
Coastal Oregon. The town and the lighthouse that appear in the book are based on real places, the town more loosely so. This is the inspiration for the lighthouse and keeper's house. Obviously I've taken some liberties, but it's stuck with me ever since I visited the place as a teenager.
